The City of Sarajevo is shortlisted for the Global Production Awards, established this year by Screen International, one of the world’s leading film magazines, with the aim of recognizing outstanding work in supporting film and TV production around the world.
The awards highlight the best productions, exceptional and promising locations, as well as works in the field of sustainable production and diversity. They are awarded to organizations that have set high standards in the film and TV industry, including studios, production companies, filming locations and other activities in the film industry.
The shortlist of nominees for the awards has been published, and Sarajevo is the UNESCO city of film in the category “City of Film”. In addition to Sarajevo, there are three other cities in this category: Wellington (New Zealand), Calgary (Canada) and Trollhättan – Trollywood (Sweden).
The Global Production Awards will be presented on May 22 at a ceremony during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
“The very fact that we have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award confirms the efforts, but also the results of the City of Sarajevo in this area,” said Mayor Benjamin Karic.
“Since the City of Sarajevo has held the UNESCO Creative City of Film title in 2019, the amount of film and TV production in Sarajevo has increased by 400% and the number of viewers in cinemas has increased by 100%. These are the results recognized by Screen International, including Sarajevo on the short list of nominees for the inagural awards of Global Production,” said the director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, Jovan Marjanovic.
The holder of the application for the Global Production Awards in front of the City of Sarajevo is the Obala Art Centar, the management unit of the Sarajevo City of Film UNESCO.
