The City of Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karić attended this year’s 75th Cannes Film Festival, which took place from 17th to 28th May 2022. Mayor Karić was invited to visit Cannes by the City of Cannes Mayor David Lisnard. The two Mayors met for the first time as representatives of the two cities that hold the prestigious UNESCO City of Film title. Sarajevo was designated a UNESCO City of Film in 2019, and Cannes in 2021.
Mayor Karić said that this was a special opportunity to present and promote Sarajevo under the spotlights as a proud UNESCO City of Film.
During the meeting with Mayor Lisnard at the Cannes City Hall, Mayor Karić announced the 28th edition of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
“In August, we will once again host and celebrate prominent experts in film and creative industry,” said Mayor Karić, inviting the Cannes delegation to visit the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Mayor Karić and Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film Project Manager Nataša Kučera learned about the activities of the City of Cannes as part of the Cannes UNESCO City of Film project at the Cannes On Air gala reception, hosted by the Mayor of Cannes at the Jean de Noailles multimedia library. After the reception, Mayor Karić and Mayor Lisnard walked the red carpet together and attended the screening of the film Armageddon.
In the following days, Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film Project Manager Nataša Kucera learned more about the Cannes UNESCO City of Film Project, together with representatives of other UNESCO Creative Cities. An exclusive tour was organized, and the activities of the City of Cannes were presented within the Cannes On Air program. This was a special opportunity for Sarajevo to connect with other UNESCO Cities of Film that had their representatives in Cannes this year, such as the cities of Rome, Valladolid and Cluj-Napoca.
